I spent several weeks in Utah in early August (July 30 - August 15) caring for my father. I must go to Utah 7 or 8 times a year. As a result, I am always looking for new and interesting ways to get there. This trip might be called "Crossing the Divide" - it wasn't planned that way, but you never know how things are going to turn out when you improvise. The four pictures below show four great "divides" that you might want to check out on your travels: 1) Fish Creek Pass - between Pocatello and Montpelier, Idaho (near Lava Hot Springs), 2) the dirt road BEHIND the Wasatch between Logan and Huntsville, Utah - high clearance on your vehicle recommended, 3) the best of the bunch - the very historic Lemhi Pass, where Lewis & Clark crossed the Bitterroots - this is one spectacular spot and anyone wanting beauty and history rolled into one experience, this is it, and 4) the pass over the Bitterroots at the head of the St. Joe River between St. Maries, Idaho and St. Regis, Montana - the St. Joe is in the valley below (a very beautiful river)....some travel on a good gravel road required. Have fun!
