Wenatchee Live

Wenatchee was the hot location for celebrity spotting in August (26-29) when the boys' fantasy draft was held in the Pacific Northwest for the first time. This was a big plum for the area, as it has been estimated that this function brings at least $250 into the local economy and might add as much as .35 jobs for the three-day period. It is highly sought after by Chamber of Commerce types. A fun time was had by all and the WIFI worked OK with all the laptops hooked up at the same time. It was suggested afterwards that maybe the "kinda-flag" football ought to be replaced by something a little more kindly to aging joints. There were many more injuries this year than in prior years - check out the picture of Eric below. But maybe a few simple changes in routine will do....like allow water or prohibit full-contact tackling without helmets or mandate an occasional 5-minute break. The Wenatchee Anderton girls took advantage of the time to do some bonding and promote a family picture.

Computer Tips

Couple of interesting things I recently read that might be of some interest. The first is an article about one couple's strategy for data backup when they travel with a laptop. Having had some firsthand experience with data loss while traveling, I found it helpful. The second article concerns a recent program started by Costco for recycling your electronics. Handy resource. Kelsy's Wedding

KR & KT spent a week in Washington D.C. (August 9-16) attending the wedding of her childhood friend, Kelsy Spanton. Those two could giggle for ten straight days in the back seat of a car...constantly...without taking a break. Actually, it used to drive me nuts! How fast time flies. Now they are grown women! The girls made a week of it and did the DC Death March, seeing all the sights.

Hotel Hell

For the Anderton Children, this picture might cause nightmares. Yes, the last door on the bottom right. The room where we all left dinner, and all of the meals from the previous two days, deposited in various receptacles. Yes......Superior, Montana. Always a favorite part of family lore.

Western Divides

I spent several weeks in Utah in early August (July 30 - August 15) caring for my father. I must go to Utah 7 or 8 times a year. As a result, I am always looking for new and interesting ways to get there. This trip might be called "Crossing the Divide" - it wasn't planned that way, but you never know how things are going to turn out when you improvise. The four pictures below show four great "divides" that you might want to check out on your travels: 1) Fish Creek Pass - between Pocatello and Montpelier, Idaho (near Lava Hot Springs), 2) the dirt road BEHIND the Wasatch between Logan and Huntsville, Utah - high clearance on your vehicle recommended, 3) the best of the bunch - the very historic Lemhi Pass, where Lewis & Clark crossed the Bitterroots - this is one spectacular spot and anyone wanting beauty and history rolled into one experience, this is it, and 4) the pass over the Bitterroots at the head of the St. Joe River between St. Maries, Idaho and St. Regis, Montana - the St. Joe is in the valley below (a very beautiful river)....some travel on a good gravel road required. Have fun!

Speaking of Newlyweds

As a newlywed couple, there is an adjustment period for the "family cuisine style" to emerge. The new couple should always keep in mind that cooking prowess sometimes comes with experience (not always, but sometimes). Hence this helpful tip:

Summer Weddings

Congrats to Hollis & Michelle and Simon & Heather for tying the knot this summer. Good matches. Made for a whirlwind of weddings and receptions for Rob & Mary.
