Iowa

We went to Church in the morning in the driving rain. But before we headed out, we HAD to take a picture with the men sitting in the lobby. You just don't see Native Americans, feathers and all, sitting in the lobby of hotels anymore. After Church, we finished our visit to the Museum & Aquarium of the Mississippi. (KR wants to make sure you know we bought our tickets on Saturday.) It is new and lacks depth (they are still completing and filling out some of the exhibits), but there are some cool things that made it worth the visit. The catfish exhibit was fascinating, and the huge catfish and gar in the main tank were extraordinary. After our visit, Ric had to try the catfish at the local restaurant - does he look impressed?

If we build it, they will come. How prophetic was that! It got us here. Isn't it interesting that people will come and see a spot that has no intrinsic importance other than the fact it was a spot where a film, which is purely the product of a director's imagination, was made over a period of a few weeks. But it is a beautiful spot, and I guess that is all that matters. It can be the spot where you can think about your dreams, whatever they may be.

You just can't see too many mounds. As we left Iowa in the late afternoon and crossed back into Wisconsin at Prairie du Chien, we stopped along the Mississippi to take in some woodsy splendor at Effigy Mounds National Monument. Rick took one look at the first mound and said, "That is it?". After 1000 years they tend to settle I guess. Well it was a beautiful fall day!
