Cali, On to Medellin

We really intended to see Cali, really we did. It sounded like such a good idea when we made the travel plans months ago. But the hotel was so nice, the room service so good, and it rained and rained and rained. And we were so tired. I think our bodies were just worn out from the stress of 6 months without a break. We rested in Cali and let our belongings dry.

We packed up our suitcases the afternoon of Thursday, May 8th, left them at the front desk while we had some dinner. We took a hotel shuttle to the airport about 7:00 p.m., left Cali about 9:30 p.m. and arrived in Medellin about 10:00 p.m. without incident.

Cali pictures: 1) downtown Cali, 2,3) the rain, and more rain, 4) our hotel, 5) the swollen Cali River, and 6) KR waiting for our shuttle to the airport.

Mike arranged with the hotel to send transportation, so we were greeted by a young man holding a "Michael Anderton" sign. It was nice to have that security, since it was so late. We were required to sign a document before leaving which attested to the fact that we were in the car of our own free will. Interesting. We repeated the long drive of a few weeks ago into the valley where Medellin rests, enjoying a never-ending series of hairpin turns and winding streets. We arrived at the very nice Hotel Estelar about midnight. It is kind of hidden on a side street so it took the cabbie a while to find the address. The clerk changed us to a 14th-floor corner room with a king bed - lovely!
