In our travels and discussions of the last few days, some broad themes began to emerge:
1. It is pretty clear that almost all of the local leaders we worked with and helped to get to the temple
have hung in there and are still the leaders. They seemed much more confident and able. Most
have stepped up a level, like from branch president to district leadership.
2. The buildings look great and appear well-kept.
3. The south has changed very little, other a few new American food establishments here and there.
4. Someone finally convinced the Area to reorganize and make official the districts - they ended up
much as the plans we submitted in 2000.
Valle Verde District (our name survived): Cantarranas, Villa de San Francisco, Moroceli, Ojo de
Agua, Yuscaran
Monjaras District - Marcovia, Monjaras, Cedeno (new), Guapinol (new), Buena Vista
San Lorenzo District - Nacaome, Centro San Lorenzo, Obrera, Langue, San Lorenzo
Choluteca Porvenir Stake - Cabanas, Centro, Los Graneros, Porvenir, Tamarindo, San Luis
Choluteca Stake - Cuidad Nueva (Limon), Yusguare, Iberia, Los Llanos, Nueva
Esperanza, Agua Caliente
Uyuca Stake - newer branches have been formed in Zamarano and Tatumbla, and are
merged into the Stake for administration purposes
Esperanza Stake - Santa Lucia and Valle de Angeles merged into Stake
for administration purposes
MHT Branches - Sabanagrande, El Triunfo, Orocuina
5. It sounded like the branch in Sabanagrande may eventually end up in the adjoining stake
in the Comayaguela Mission. I also think El Triunfo and Orocuina will be absorbed by the
Choluteca stakes. Not sure what has happened to Perspire. I got conflicting
information on that one.
6. It also appears that some of the branches are making significant progress and may be split,
such as Monjaras, Marcovia and Nacaome. The individual branches do not currently fit
into their chapels for their Sunday meetings. I think they are going to amplify the Monjaras
building. We came across a very beautiful new chapel in Tatumbla.
